The prophetic sign was there all along. Steve Martin, Love For His People ministry

May 26, 2022 Charlotte, North Carolina

Greetings to my family and friends of Love For His People.

I believe in prophetic signs, be they come in the skies, the Written Word, from His still small voice of the Holy Spirit, a person sharing His heart, or any and all other means He chooses to show us Himself to us and His direction for our lives on this planet He created.

Do you believe?

I double dare you to read my message He gave me today to share with you. As written below.

Ahava and shalom,

Steve Martin, Love For His People ministry

P.S. Be sure to watch my interview with Rabbi Kokeb on the streets of Jerusalem, Israel, below, which I recorded in April 2022.

The Prophetic Sign Was There…All Along

“I’m passing this work on to you, my son Timothy. The prophetic word that was directed to you prepared us for this…” 1 Timothy 1:18, THE MESSAGE

As I sat there in my morning prayer-Bible reading-update-the-website chair in our converted garage, to what is now the “museum room”, around 6:30 am on May 24, 2022, the Holy Spirit spoke to me.

“Look up at the bookcase shelf on the wall. What do you see?”

So, I looked up and saw on the second shelf the one I had dedicated to Africa. I have never been to Africa. I had wanted to be a missionary doctor to that continent ever since I was a 10-year-old boy, most likely inspired by my mother who spoke of her dream of going there also.

I got up and carefully looked at the two Coca-Cola cans I had placed there. Mind you, they had been sitting there for 14 years (don’t drink them now!) because in 2008 the Coca-Cola Bottling Company had put out commemorative cans to celebrate the Beijing Olympics that year, with different countries and languages on them that would be represented in the Summer Olympics.

There, my eyes beheld something that had been sitting there, in front of me, all along. For 14 long years.

Do you know how movies sometimes flashback to years long before the current scene, to give you the “back-story” of what is taking place on the big screen now? Here is mine.

The Lord Jesus had put in my heart, one of those desires He gives to each of us, a longing to go to Africa as a minister, to share His love. This happened when I was 10. (Do you recall things you dreamed of when you were a young child? Guess Who put them there?)

I thought my dream would come true during the 14 years I worked with Mahesh and Bonnie Chavda, of All Nations Church now located in Fort Mill, South Carolina. Mahesh would go to Zaire, West Africa, now the Democratic Republic of the Congo, every year from the mid-1980s onward. Sometimes Bonnie would accompany him as the cameraman.

Every year Art Maki would be the “mule” as they lovingly called him, to carry the tools, batteries, and building supplies needed for the construction of the large open field stages they would have to build for mass people meetings. They would go from 3-6 weeks each year, holding open meetings all throughout the country. Thousands and thousands would come each day and experience salvation and healing miracles.

In 1987 I came on staff with Mahesh Chavda Ministries, then located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. One main reason was to support the work being done in Africa through this USA ministry. And each year I longed to go with Mahesh and the others.

In 1993 Mahesh told me I could go with him in the next year, 1994. When 1994 came around, civil war broke out in Zaire, and Mahesh never went back. Overwhelmingly disappointment for me.

In 2003, when I was on staff at Derek Prince Ministries in Charlotte, Laurie and I were invited by a local Charlotte minister to be part of a mixed-race worship team that was going to Zimbabwe that summer. We got so excited! Finally, I was going to Africa! For some unknown reason to this day, the trip was canceled a few months before departure. Need I say more?

Jerusalem, Israel – April 2022 (Photo by Steve Martin)

The Lord turned my heart more and more to Israel during those decades, showing how our debt to Israel, as Christians, is so much due to the Jewish people. Through them, God the Father gave us the Bible, the prophets, and above all, the Messiah, Jesus Christ, Yeshua HaMashiach, who brought salvation to all, Jew, and Gentile, who would receive His redemption offer.

In 2018 my good friend David Peterman made his first trip to Israel, and by God’s divine appointment, met Ethiopian Messianic Rabbi Kokeb Gedamu in Jerusalem. David came back to Charlotte and told me of Kokeb. In May 2019 I then met Kokeb, and the relationship blossomed from there.

In April 2022, David and I together went to Jerusalem, Israel, and spent a full day with Kokeb and his wife Menalu, traveling in his white van from Jerusalem for a full day in Tiberias and Haifa, both north of the capital city of the Jews. It was a very long, but awesome day, with the Lord again giving us divine appointments with friends Chaim Malespin (Aliyah Return Center) and Carolyn Hyde (Heart for God), both having ministries based near Tiberias.

When I got home after April 12, 2022, Laurie and I had a commitment to take one of our 7 grandsons, Jack Blade, to the Asheboro, NC zoo. It was a Christmas present Grandma Laurie had promised him. When we headed first to the African animal section, my choice, I purposely stepped on the walkway painted sign saying “Africa” with an arrow pointing this way. The Lord says wherever your foot shall stand shall be yours. I believe that. I took a photo of my feet on that sign.

Very shortly after that act of faith, the Holy Spirit spoke softly to me and said to contact Rabbi Kokeb. Knowing he was in Denver, Colorado at the time, I knew the 2-hour time difference would get a quicker response than from Jerusalem, his normal home. I was not disappointed this time.I asked Kokeb when he was next going to Ethiopia to visit the new Ethiopian Jewish Messianic congregation he had started. He replied in October 2022. I quickly asked Laurie if it was OK with her if I asked to go. She said yes, but to make it after October 8, our 45th wedding anniversary. (Wives are very good at remembering those very important days.)

I told Kokeb just that…and the invite to go with him came from him right then.

Now back to the Coke cans.

When I carefully looked at the can, the wording on both was in an African language, which was why I put the two cans on that shelf 14 years ago. (Later I found out that the language was Amharic.) Then I rotated one can in my hand. There was the word “Ethiopia”!

For 14 years the Lord had that soda pop can sitting on my shelf, just waiting for the day when His prophetic timetable would come to pass. It is always His timing that is so accurate!

In October 2022 I am going to Ethiopia, Eastern Africa. The Lord took me to Jerusalem to meet an Ethiopian Messianic Rabbi to connect me to the continent of Africa.

That is one way the Lord speaks to us, directs our steps, and fulfills the desires of our hearts that HE Himself puts there. He is SO Faithful and True!

“Delight yourself in the Lord; and He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him, and He will do it.” Psalm 37:4-5, NASU

Believe Him. Trust Him. Love Him. Your desires will also come true. Just wait and see!

Trust Me Still. Your Faith in God.by Steve Martin (Published 2021)

During the years 1960-1974 my family, with parents Louis and Lila Martin, and my siblings, Sue, Mary, Tom, Colleen, Janet, Lynn and Rob, lived at 1116 Main Street in Cedar Falls, Iowa. That home is pictured on the front cover of this book, and of this date still stands.

It was in that home that we grew in knowledge and truth to trust in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. With the input given to all of us through our parents, be it during the good and the bad times, a good foundation was laid for our spiritual, social, and natural lives.

I decided to feature that house on the cover because I want to acknowledge that the Lord decides where we live, and move, and exist.“… and He made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their habitation, 27 that they would seek God, if perhaps they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us;” Acts 17: 26-27, NASB

Since those years have come and gone, my faith in Him has grown, been tested, and still stands strong, continuing to trust in Him day in and day out.I hope these following chapters encourage you in your walk of faith. And at the end of your days, you will be known as one who has stood strong, still trusting in the Living God. He alone is the One Who can take you to the end, and who constantly watches over Israel and all believers in Him. He is the One too Who is coming back soon again.
