L’Chaim friends! To life! – message by Steve Martin, Love For His People ministry

May 1, 2022 Charlotte, North Carolina

Greetings to family and friends of Love For His People.

May Day! May Day! Remember what happened each time on May 1 each year? We would take bags of popcorn/candy, run to our neighbor’s house, ring the doorbell (or knock if there was no doorbell), and run away. It was May Day and time to bless each other with surprises – sweet and crunchy treats.

Ok…so you don’t remember. You must be less than 40 years old.

But it was a good time in life for those who experienced some L’Chaim! (To life!) in those good older days, when innocence in kids was allowed to be so…

I had a very real treat this early morning, around 5:00 am, when many of you may have still been dreaming, of good things I hope.

Read on to find out what was happening here in the early morning hours!

Ahava and shalom,

L’Chaim (To Life!)

“I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants, by loving the Lord your God, by obeying His voice, and by holding fast to Him; for this is your life and the length of your days, that you may live in the land which the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them.” Deuteronomy 30:19-20 NASU

Sometimes I just can’t contain the life and love the Lord Jesus (Yeshua HaMashiach) give us.

Let my story begin…

My good wife Laurie and I love plays. She was in several in her grade and high school years, starring as one of the little girls in the Sound of Music (Gretel, maybe?). Laurie was in elementary school at the time. The play director Mr. Manahan knew talent when he saw it! (Laurie will tell you for sure if I am right on both these accounts.)

My beautiful wife-to-be also had a role in Fiddler on the Roof several years later at the same city-wide school.  Being I was a young lad yet at 22 and she was a still younger lass, a senior, at the LaSalle/Peru High School on the border of these two towns in north-central Illinois (she being almost 18), I had a good auditorium seat which I am sure she secured for me. For you see, it was always love at first sight on her behalf. (Mine too…) The Lord does bring her to you, I believe, as He did Eve to Adam. (To encourage all those godly men, and women, who are still in the “me-next” waiting stage of their life.)

As I asked the Holy Spirit what word He would have me share with you this morning, He said simply, “L’Chaim!” which is Hebrew for “To Life!”

Knowing that the 1971 wonderful musical film Fiddler on the Roof, starring one of my favorite actors Topol as the lead character Tevye, a poor Jewish milkman living in Anatevka, Russia, loved to say that along with his Jewish friends, I got a bit excited.

Info on the movie: Fiddler on the Roof is a 1971 American epic musical film produced and directed by Norman Jewison, and written by Joseph Stein and Sholem Aleichem. An adaptation of the 1964 Broadway musical of the same name, it stars TopolNorma CraneLeonard FreyMolly Picon, and Paul Mann. The film centers on Tevye, a poor Jewish milkman living in Anatevka, who is faced with the challenge of marrying off his five daughters amidst the growing tension in his village.Fiddler on the Roof was theatrically released on November 3, 1971, by United Artists to critical and commercial success. Reviewers praised Jewison’s direction, the screenplay, and the performances of the cast, while the film grossed $83.3 million worldwide on a $9 million budget, becoming the highest-grossing film of 1971. The film received a leading eight nominations at the 44th Academy Awards, including for the Best Picture, and won three; Best Score AdaptationBest CinematographyBest Sound. Source: Wikipedia.org

As I couldn’t remember the name of the leading man actor, or the proper spelling of his character’s name, I did what most of us do now these days. I googled it! (There is redemption in all that is out there.)

Lo and behold! What should my eyes see? A website of Blumenthal Performing Arts in uptown Charlotte, North Carolina!

What?! Coming here now?!!

Yes, indeed. It is coming here to Charlotte. And so, what was the next thing I did? I bought two tickets! But not just any two tickets. These are going to be a surprise #63 birthday present for the former child-star, high school senior standout, wife of almost 45 years now (Oct. 8, 2022) to Steve Martin himself (no, not that one..) of the one, the only, Laura Jean Unzicker, now most commonly known as Laurie Martin!!!

(And being you just may also want to bless her too maybe, put this on your calendar, June 28, 2022. Laurie’s 63rd! You have two months to prepare…)

Isn’t the Holy Spirit awesome!!! He has such a way of leading us, directing our steps, so that we too can be like Him and bless others He wants us to bless.

Thank You, Lord! (And I know You too will enjoy coming with us to see Tevye again, along with our guardian angels sitting in the seats next to each of us. Or maybe above us. Their choice.)

L’Chaim! To life!

Ahava and shalom,

Steve Martin, Love For His People founder

P.S. If you see Laurie in church today, or around the city this week, tell her Steve told you her upcoming age! Ha!

Message #71 – in the year of our Lord 05.01.2022 – L’Chaim – To Life!” – Sunday, 5:55 am in Charlotte, NC USA
Trust Me Still. Your Faith in God.
by Steve Martin (Published 2021)

During the years 1960-1974 my family, with parents Louis and Lila Martin, and my siblings, Sue, Mary, Tom, Colleen, Janet, Lynn and Rob, lived at 1116 Main Street in Cedar Falls, Iowa. That home is pictured on the front cover of this book, and of this date still stands.

It was in that home that we grew in knowledge and truth to trust in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. With the input given to all of us through our parents, be it during the good and the bad times, a good foundation was laid for our spiritual, social, and natural lives.

I decided to feature that house on the cover because I want to acknowledge that the Lord decides where we live, and move, and exist.

“… and He made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their habitation, 27 that they would seek God, if perhaps they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us;” Acts 17: 26-27, NASB

Since those years have come and gone, my faith in Him has grown, been tested, and still stands strong, continuing to trust in Him day in and day out.

I hope these following chapters encourage you in your walk of faith. And at the end of your days, you will be known as one who has stood strong, still trusting in the Living God. He alone is the One Who can take you to the end, and who constantly watches over Israel and all believers in Him. He is the One too Who is coming back soon again.
