Bonds of Friendship
“Adonai didn’t set his heart on you or choose you because you numbered more than any other people — on the contrary, you were the fewest of all peoples.” Deuteronomy 7:7, Complete Jewish Bible
With the return from Jerusalem, Israel of David Peterman and me on April 13, 2022, I was asked in an email by an Israeli Jewish believer if I had “any revelations I could share?”
Without too much thought, being it is so real to my life now having been there so many times, I replied,
“Israel was wonderful. We spent 9 days in Jerusalem, using city bus and light rail. I took the train to Tel Aviv one day to meet up with Jewish friends coming from South Dakota for Pesach.
Rabbi Kokeb also asked us to go with him to a meeting Friday night in Haifa, and we stopped in Tiberias on the way. Had 45 min with Chaim Malespin (Aliyah Return Center) and 20 min with Carolyn Hyde (Heart of God Ministries). Unexpected and God-ordained.
Long day it was. 7:30 am to midnight.
Revelations? As Gentiles spend more time with the locals the Lord will bind our hearts together.
And don’t get a Covid test 72 hours ahead of departure for then American Airlines will send another email saying it can’t be more than 24 hrs. (It is all a scam and moneymaker for pharmaceuticals…)
Have a good Passover week. Eat lots of matzah!
I want to emphasize the “revelations” part I responded back within my email, with more from what I quoted from Deuteronomy 7:7 at the top of this message.
“The Lord did not set His love on you nor choose you because you were more in number than any of the peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples, 8 but because the Lord loved you and kept the oath which He swore to your forefathers, the Lord brought you out by a mighty hand and redeemed you from the house of slavery, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.
9 “Know therefore that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God, who keeps His covenant and His lovingkindness to a thousandth generation with those who love Him and keep His commandments; 10 but repays those who hate Him to their faces, to destroy them; He will not delay with him who hates Him, He will repay him to his face.
11 “Therefore, you shall keep the commandment and the statutes and the judgments which I am commanding you today, to do them.” Deuteronomy 7:7-11, NASU
The Jews are an amazing people, quite simply because though small in number, they always seem to be the ones who attract the most hatred, destruction, and evil from everyone else. Certainly, since the Lord God of Israel chose them to demonstrate to the rest of us Who He is, and how He loves us so much, they have endured so much, and yet live on.
What other people do you know, through the centuries of history, that have lived through so many attempts by Satan and those he works through (Many in the “name of Christ”) to destroy the Jews and Israel, yesterday and today?
The Jews are living proof that the eternal God lives and that He will fulfill what He said He would. From Genesis to Revelation, the Lord has used the Jews to bring His Word to the nations, and when non-Jews (Gentiles or goyim in Hebrew) understand and receive the salvation brought to the earth through God’s only Son, Jesus the Messiah, Yeshua HaMashiach, coming Himself as a Jew, then that revelation gives us life and love in Him. And it passes it further onto them through us. And the Jews themselves will see Yeshua as their Messiah too when their eyes are opened.
When Yeshua opened the eyes of the blind man in John 9:10, he could then see whereas before he could not. Jesus is doing that among His people today as they come to see Him. He is using believing Gentiles to help do so also.
As for my part, and Christians who have received the revelation of supporting Israel and the Jews, I have found that being their friend, encouraging them, and letting them know they are not alone in the world, will plant seeds in their heart that one day the Lord Himself will water and then bear fruit as they come to know that their Messiah too has already come.
Further bonds of friendship were established on this last trip, among Messianic Jews, secular Jews, and Orthodox Jews. The Lord chose them all to reveal Himself to the nations, and it is a joy to share His love with them.
Ahava and shalom,
