The Ahava Adventure Continues…Day 3 in Jerusalem April 5, 2022. Nissim and Hadassah – doing their part.

Nissim and Hadassah Lerner – Nissim likes his new mug for his 76th birthday!

April 6, 2022 Love For His People ministry from Jerusalem, Israel

First – more “Good News” from Israel. My luggage arrived! Only three days after I did. Yeah, Lord!

Second – Wednesday, April 6, is David Peterman’s birthday. 56 while in Israel!

As I asked the Lord what He would have me share today, several thoughts come to mind, being I want to bring encouragement, hope, and a wee bit of joy to those of you who read these, with this time in Israel, and especially from Jerusalem.

I know with all the other words and pictures and sounds constantly filling the space you live, you have many choices in which to fill your time. So, this better be good, right?!

I always ask the Holy Spirit, “What is on Your heart? What can I share that will give the one reading, seeing, and thinking of what I share a reason to further trust in You? To seek You? To know of their place, their purpose, their reason to press on to Your will, rather than succumb to what the masses have settled for?”

“What can I share from this special time in Israel, Your Promised Land, that will bring more of Your heart for Your people here, and the ones reading this?”

And He answers every time. By having me share a story or two of ones right from here.

I have known Nissim and Hadassah Lerner of Givat Ze-ev, living just 7 or so miles north of Jerusalem, now for over 11 years. Messianic Jews (believers in Yeshua, Jesus) having come home.

Thinking back at the time, when I was told I should meet them, at the suggestion of a Facebook friend whom I had never met but had the same heart for Israel and told me of them, that it would go much beyond that time when I stayed in their home that first year.

But as I am sure you yourself can recall times when something occurred in your life, not planned much on your part, but now looking back you realize, “That was the Lord. He is the Connector and the One Who directs my steps.” And you give Him mighty thanks.

So, it has been with this married couple of several decades. Getting to know them, their family (4 boys, one daughter, 17 “grands” as they call the next generation offspring), their “mission from God” has encouraged myself to never stop seeking our Lord and obeying His call.

Nissim just celebrated his 76th birthday. Hadassah, well, it best not be that I reveal a woman’s age I am told. But I can tell you this, I hope I have her energy when 7 decades have come and gone. Or maybe it is only six and a half for her. I’ll leave it at that.

Nissim said today, as David Peterman and I sat around their kitchen table having a shawarma sandwich lunch, followed by vanilla ice cream squares dipped in chocolate, that having retired from CBN News Jerusalem last year in December, he was thankful the Lord gave him this new assignment after that one had been completed. For he has gone from being the accountant on the job for that famous international ministry to experiencing the acceleration in their ministry, His Lighthouse, Inc., as the Jewish people are coming home, even driven from the war-torn land of Ukraine and surrounding countries.

They have prepared for this time for years. Or rather, God had prepared them! Now they are right in the middle of knowing, “For this time He has done it.”

And Hadassah, whom I call the “walking encyclopedia”, knowing I can “Call Hadassah” and get an answer, even if she herself, as she told me today, Googles for some things to get me a reply. And she is a really good tour guide, which come to think of it, I really think she may get a lot of that from their son Tim, 42 and single, who is a licensed Mandarin Chinese tour guide here in Israel.

(Tim’s story is very fascinating. In brief, an American Jew from Virginia who lived in China when yet a teenager, then went back and taught English in a Shanghai school, and now ends up being a rare Mandarin Chinese tour guide here in Israel. And the Chinese tourists come here in groves so he is much needed. Only God!)

The Lerners daily give it what they got. If you passed them on the Jerusalem street you would think they were an “average older couple living each day as they wait for another tomorrow, making sure they are getting by one more day”, when in fact they are a vital communication line between Israel and Ukraine, Poland, and Moldavia, helping Jews make aliyah by coming home, and then giving them a home to come back to once they get here.

They are connecting with other Jewish and Christian ministries in the middle of the battle so to speak, willing and able to join hands with those who also are willing to get in on the Lord’s plan and see Him get it accomplished.

And for this and more, my heart is touched, my faith is strengthened, and my hope is renewed. I trust yours is too, by hearing a wee bit of what they are doing, behind the scenes, fulfilling their role in our God’s mighty plan.

Praise the Lord for the Lerners!
