“What Do You Talk About”, Cathy Hargett

What thoughts are going on in your head right now?  What do you talk about? Are the meditations of your heart being spoken out loud? Perhaps what you talk about depends on circumstances or where you are or the people in your tribe? Or maybe your heart is so absorbed with the God of Israel that no matter what the circumstances, your response and the meditation of your heart is filtered through the lens of His Word.

Recently, I was in a group meeting where we were all just sitting there together waiting to transition into our study for the day.  Many times, in a situation like this, people will begin to share personal stories or other casual conversation about what is going on in their lives. Sometimes the conversation, even among believers, becomes very secular and unfiltered by the Word.  But in this group, instead of our sharing becoming shallow, the conversation among us began with a dear brother sharing about his gratefulness for all of us who were there together, expressing his thankfulness for the family of God.

From there, the conversation continued with different ones talking about Yeshua and these days, the coming Messianic Kingdom and our mutual love for Him and each other.  This went on for quite some time.  It became so clear that, without even being aware of it, we were talking about whatsoever things are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent and praiseworthy (Php. 4:8).

The conversation was a physical, in-this-dimension-outworking of the Word that He is searing into the hearts of the remnant – “And let us consider how we may spur one another on to love and good deeds.  Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another – and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”  Hebrews 10:24-25 NIV

It was such a revelation to see so clearly that the remnant of the followers of God in the last days will be distinctive from the rest of the world.  What we talk about is different from what the people of the world talk about.  This phenomenon of distinctiveness is becoming clearer and clearer.

When a group of people gather and their hearts are so focused on Him that what they talk about when they are together is all about Him we know that He is near, yes, even there in the midst of us.  I so love these days as prophecy is unfolding.  There is a passage in Malachi that talks about how the Lord listens and hears what the people of the Kingdom, those who fear Him, talk about when they are together.

“Then those who feared Adonai spoke together; and Adonai listened and heard.  A record book was written in His Presence for those who feared Adonai and had respect for His Name.  They will be mine, says Adonai-Tzvaot, on the day when I compose my own special treasure.  I will spare them as a man spares his own son who serves him.  Then once again you will see the difference between the righteous and the wicked, between the person who serves God and one that doesn’t serve Him.”  Mal. 3:16-18 CJB

God is listening to what we talk about.  He also knows what we are thinking about.  The part of this passage that so amazes me is that it clearly states that He claims us for Himself. He actually says, “they will be mine”.  He says we are part of His own special treasure, His possession.  He sets us apart – all of us who fear and love Him – both the remnant of Israel and the remnant of the grafted-in ones from the nations who love the God of Israel.  He identifies us as separate from the world.  He hears us talking and puts our names in His book. He knows who we are.

Oh, Lord, let our words and the meditations of our hearts please you!  When we are together, we will speak of You, Your Kingdom and Your Glory and encourage each other in the Hope that is sure.
