“Bubble Gum God. Not!” Time To Act by Steve Martin

“I was caught up at once in deep worship and, oh! — a Throne set in Heaven with One Seated on the Throne…” Revelation 4:2, THE MESSAGE

To get right to the point, in case you don’t read a single word further…

It is time for the Body of Christ, the Church, those who have and still do call on the Name of the Lord, to get serious about their faith and walk with the Lord Almighty.

No longer can we waste precious time going about our “normal” business – all that changed anyway with this current world situation and fear that has come.

Our God is not a bubble gum God, where we can go and stick in a nickel (or quarter) and get a gumball or toy trinket whenever we feel like it. He is not just sitting on His heavenly throne waiting while we ignore Him, and then only speak a word out of desperation or need when we think we can.

No, the Almighty God of Israel is not a pansy or one who just lets us do whatever we want, when we want, or in what viewpoint we have of Him, and ignore Him until the nations are consumed in their own sin and rejection of His ways and truth.

America, to be specific, took God out of our schools in the 60s. “God is dead!” the national magazine said.

Then we allowed laws to be passed permitting women and young girls to kill the baby in their womb, as if it was just a blob, with no repercussions.

The past decades we stayed in our pews, being the good boys and girls, men, and women, that good Christians were supposed to be. Never mind about the ones we were involved with the other six days of the week, for many who went on Sunday were not much different than those on Monday anyway.

You think one race can only take so much? What about the One Who created all races, in His very image? Do we think He will just silently observe from afar, and let mankind kill itself off?

“Therefore you have no excuse, everyone of you who passes judgment, for in that which you judge another, you condemn yourself; for you who judge practice the same things. And we know that the judgment of God rightly falls upon those who practice such things. But do you suppose this, O man, when you pass judgment on those who practice such things and do the same yourself, that you will escape the judgment of God? Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and tolerance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance?

But because of your stubbornness and unrepentant heart you are storing up wrath for yourself in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, who WILL RENDER TO EACH PERSON ACCORDING TO HIS DEEDS: to those who by perseverance in doing good seek for glory and honor and immortality, eternal life; but to those who are selfishly ambitious and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, wrath and indignation. There will be  tribulation and distress for every soul of man who does evil, of the Jew first and also of the Greek, but glory and honor and peace to everyone who does good, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For there is no partiality with God.” Romans 2:1-11, NASU

Some pastors and preachers in our churches on Sunday mornings speak of the glorious love of God, as if He is only “love, love, love.” They fail to preach the full gospel, that proclaims because He is a righteous God, He cannot, He will not, let the ungodly and the sin of man go unpunished.

I have hope for America, because my hope is founded only in the God Who brought America into being, when He raised up godly men and women, fleeing religious persecution, to come to a new land in order to praise and worship freely the Living God.

But just as He so freely gave to all, Who call upon His Name for love, joy, peace, patience, justice, and all the rest, He will remove His protection and provision if we choose to go our own way.

Read the examples so historically given to us of those who have gone before us. Every time the people of Israel, who served the same God as we do, turned from Him, He sent punishment and dispelled them.

Are we any different? In case you hesitate, the answer is no.

“Remember those who rule over you, who have spoken the word of God to you, whose faith follow, considering the outcome of their conduct. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Do not be carried about with various and strange doctrines.” Hebrews 13:7-9, NKJV

It is time to act on the Word of God, to know it, adhere to it, and walk in His ways. Without following Him and His Word, we certainly will go the same way, with the same results, as those who failed to follow Him before us.
