“When God Calls” – Time To Consider by Steve Martin

Answer the call. For the 1st time, 10th time, and 120th time.

“The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. When he got there, he ran across Philip and said, “Come, follow me.” 44 (Philip’s hometown was Bethsaida, the same as Andrew and Peter.)” John 1:43-44, THE MESSAGE

The phone rang. Yes, it rang. Not a text. Not a WhatsApp. Not even an Emergency Alert. (Or maybe…)

And when I saw the name, the thoughts starting circling in my head. For he was a new friend in my walk with the Lord, and lately the Lord has been working through him to bring some further guidance and clarity, as my good wife Laurie and I have been anticipating the next move of God in our lives.

Or as was prophesied years ago over me by a prophet named Robbie Phillips, now in glory, who spoke the declarative word about me being a “laser beam”. In fact, I had completely forgotten about it, but when the recorded prophetic message kept coming up on my Car Play each time I turned the auto on the last two days, I was wondering what was up. Something more apparent was beginning to develop for me. The Lord was fine-tuning the walk path that lay ahead, for greater refinement.

When God calls, however and whenever He chooses to do so, you are one happy camper if you give Him the opportunity to speak.

Remember Moses? When God sent a call out to him, where was he at? Yes, in the desert.

Remember Saul? When God sent a call out to him, he was struck down from his horse on the way to Damascus to persecute those new, “Messiah Yeshua believing Jews”, to show them a thing or two.

I had shared this before in one of my Now Think On This messages, but it is worth sharing again. Having been given good, solid Bible food when in my 20s and 30s, through strong, godly men and women who sought after the Lord, not for their own agendas and glory, one biblical teacher in particular spoke a word that attached to my brain, somewhat like a sticky note, being held there by Holy Spirit glue. So here I am, decades older, and I can again relish the truth spoken.

He said, “Most often your first reaction to a spoken word from the Lord, giving you new direction, is to say, “No. I won’t do it. How can I do that?” But then if you just sit down a moment, let Him finish, it starts to bring the intent it was sent to bring you – hope, refreshment, excitement, a sense of boldness to venture out on a new adventure. The exact purpose for which He intended it to be in the first place. If only we just listen. (Ever hear that growing up? Or now???)

When God calls you the first time, the 10th time, or the 120th time, He really knows what He is doing. You have to give Him that. He knows exactly where He wants to take you, what is the best road to travel, and who you are to meet on the journey for that phase and new season He so desires to bring you into.

Will you answer the call?

After a few, or many, times in hearing the Lord speak, faith increases each time you hear and obey. The bigger the mountain, the bigger the faith required, but even more so comes along with it the greater amount of grace He gives for you to accomplish it.

For the sake of the Gospel, for the sake of the nations, for the sake of His kingdom coming – when He calls, we must listen. When we listen, then good comes out of it.

Next time the phone rings, the text comes, the word delivered has been sent your way, don’t be quick to dismiss it. It very well may be just the one you have been waiting for, and for your sake, and ours, I hope you don’t miss it.

It is time to consider what the Lord is saying to you. And He uses other people to deliver that word most often.

“He (Saul) set off. When he got to the outskirts of Damascus, he was suddenly dazed by a blinding flash of light. As he fell to the ground, he heard a voice: “Saul, Saul, why are you out to get me?” He said, “Who are you, Master?”

“I am Jesus, the One you’re hunting down. I want you to get up and enter the city. In the city you’ll be told what to do next.” Acts 9:3-6, THE MESSAGE

Unless you’d rather be struck by lighting, so He gets your attention, listen when He calls, and to those He sends to you.
