“Are you ready?” – Love For His People newsletter, Steve Martin

May 20, 2020 (05.20.20)

Greetings Love For His People family and friends.

Ready to leap? Been sitting around too long?
After not using some muscles to move around, for awhile they have to get used to getting “back to normal.” My son-in-law Jonathan, a personal trainer, would have the more technical words, but you get what I mean.

Even so with our spiritual walk of faith – if we don’t use the muscles we have been given – the gifts, the prayer language, the daily, consistent work of prayer and Bible reading, we will be “a-hurting” when we go to use them at the needed time.

Funny, after helping to spread three huge piles of mulch on the Antioch International Church hillside Saturday in Fort Mill, SC, for three hours, with men, women, and young boys, my muscles didn’t hurt as much as I thought they would the next day. I did have to ask G.I. Joy to slow it down a few times in shoveling into the wheel barrels the mulch, so she wouldn’t make me look bad. After all…men do have some good pride left.

While the Lord was giving us a forced Shabbat, all over the world these past two months, He was not slack in continuing to work out His perfect plan.

Even as the enemy of our soul keeps thinking he can shut down, lock down the plans of our God, even as he tried before at the death and burial of Jesus Christ, Yeshua HaMashiach, the third day always comes!

Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, Yeshua, the Author and Finisher of our faith. And at the same time keep watching what He is doing regarding the people of Israel, His chosen people, as He accelerates their return to their Land. They are a light for the nations, to reveal His glorious actions and love for all people. As He brings them back, so too He is restoring the government of His Body. Lord knows we need Him!

Below is my recent message, “Get Up & Get Going”. The Lord has His strategy in all this, and if you are listening, and watching, you too will see it. Please read.

Summer is about here. Break out in full power, Lord! Let Your glory rise upon the deep darkness in the nations, with your Holy Spirit, Ruach HaKodesh, pouring out upon us!

And yes…nothing can stop us for long. Maybe a slight detour here and there. Even so, Israel is coming up for Laurie and I July 19-August 6. Three weeks this time. Someday it will be 3 months.

“So, get going. I’ll be right there with you — with your mouth! I’ll be right there to teach you what to say.” Exodus 4:12, THE MESSAGE

You know what keeps you and me from obeying the Lord?

I’ll give you two answers, though there are several more. OK, three answers.

Fear. We are afraid the Lord will ask us to do something we have never done before. Dah? Exactly! That is why He gives us faith!

Disobedience. We overthink it. We try to reason it all out beforehand. Then we end up disobeying His clear word to us. Yes, He speaks clearly if we decide ahead of time to listen and walk it out as best we know how. Step by step.

Lack of repentance. We didn’t do what He asked us to do the last time He gave us a word, so now we can’t respond in faith, obedience, and courage to do anything else now. Repent, and He will give you what you need to do.

Can you relate to any of this? Can you see it now? Eyes to see. Eyes to hear. A heart of obedience. We need it all.

When I first began the journey of faith, courage, obedience, and daily repentance, I remember hearing the Word of the Lord to move from my hometown of Cedar Falls, Iowa at the age of 18 and go to Illinois. Did I like Iowa? Yes. Did I think it was a good place? Sure. Did I want to go to Illinois? Of course not. Why go to a new place anyway. Family here. Job here. I was engaged (but then she decided she did not want to marry a man ultimately wanting to go to Africa ever since he was 10 years old to be a missionary.)

Above all, it was the fear of telling my parents, especially my mom who I knew prayed more than anyone else for me, and I had confided in her for much regarding life. Dad I watched as he led in example. Mom I shared with as she spoke through prayers.

But I knew that I had to go on with the Lord. Leave it all behind. Step out in faith and obedience. I feared more that if I did not obey Him then I would miss what He had for me. I did not want to miss that. If I chose to stay in the comfort of location, I would have. Looking back over 45 years now, it surely is true.

So, I announced my plans. Got through the objections. Loaded up my 1966 blue Mercury Cougar with all my possessions, with the glass-pack muffler attached (ladies – you can ask your male relations) and headed east. Not west, Michael W. Smith. And it was the 8th month of the year – August 1976. The Lord seems to move a lot in my life in the 8th month. New beginnings.

Obedience brought courage, increased faith, hearing more of the Holy Spirit, receiving His daily guidance, and growth in character and maturity.

I had to get up and get going.

Anything the Lord has been prompting you about? I know He speaks to you. At times, or rather most often, He is so quiet you cannot hear. It is because you have the music going all the time (yes, even if Christian music on the radio or other!), the fake news blares from your TV, the Hallmark movie continues showing the same story with different characters, and you just keep on watching them.

What is your excuse this time? (Oh, and sports is now back. Must start watching that again! Right?!)

We need to wake up, get up, and get going Church. The disciples of Christ, Jesus the Messiah, Yeshua HaMashiach, were required to leave all to follow Him. Has our Lord changed the same requirement to fit Americans? Brits? French? Chinese? Africans? South Americans? No, He hasn’t.

You have been called to do something with your life, that He alone knows the beginning and the end. You can waste it on something everyone else is wasting theirs on, or you can begin (and continue) the life He created you for.

Your choice. It is always your choice.

As for Him, He continues to move on. Going with Him? I know I am. I just need to look back and see where He has already taken me. And so I keep getting up and getting on.

Now think on this.

Ahava and shalom,
Steve Martin
