“Don’t be naive. There are difficult times ahead. As the end approaches, people are going to be self-absorbed, money-hungry, self-promoting, stuck-up, profane, contemptuous of parents, crude, coarse, dog-eat-dog, unbending, slanderers, impulsively wild, savage, cynical, treacherous, ruthless, bloated windbags, addicted to lust, and allergic to God. They’ll make a show of religion, but behind the scenes they’re animals. Stay clear of these people.” 2 Timothy 3:1-5, THE MESSAGE
This current (and who knows for how long it will last) world pandemic is but a trial run for believers. The Lord God Almighty allowed it to happen to see how His people would respond. How have you responded?
He wants to know if we would we change our ways, from doing the same as the world has been doing. Maybe it is time we took a serious look. Through His eyes. Not ours.
And how is that you ask? Have you ever looked in a crowd and been able to point out who the true Christians are, especially at sports events, movie theaters, high schools, college campuses, and even seeker-friendly churches? Even much of our TV watching habits say little about what faith we actually have, as much of what the world gives out so casually ends up in our homes, with little discernment applied. Much of what has become known or accepted as Christianity is far from what the Bible would call it.
Have those who say they call upon the Name of the Lord Jesus shown that they are His disciples, and live as such? One measurement would be to see how has their reaction been to the pandemic that has come upon the earth? Faith or fear? Trust in whom, or what?
I think of the woman in Scripture who kept pressing the unrighteous judge for mercy, as Jesus told to those with Him this parable.
“Now He was telling them a parable to show that at all times they ought to pray and not to lose heart, saying, “In a certain city there was a judge who did not fear God and did not respect man. “There was a widow in that city, and she kept coming to him, saying, ‘ Give me legal protection from my opponent.’
“For a while he was unwilling; but afterward he said to himself, ‘Even though I do not fear God nor respect man, yet because this widow bothers me, I will give her legal protection, otherwise by continually coming she will wear me out.'”
And the Lord said, “Hear what the unrighteous judge said; now, will not God bring about justice for His elect who cry to Him day and night, and will He delay long over them? “I tell you that He will bring about justice for them quickly.
However, when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?” Luke 18:1-8, NASU
How many believers have in faith actually called upon the Name of the Lord during this time, seeking His provision, answer, protection, and leading? Or have they waited only on the actions of the national, state, or local governments to bail them out, and again be their god?
Growing up it was common to hear the American dollar called the “Almighty Dollar”. I can’t say I totally knew what it meant at the time, but for many Americans they worked hard for the almighty dollar. For many, that was their goal in life. To make all the almighty dollars they could and retire, trusting in that to get them to the end. For many, that didn’t quite happen. And then what did, or will, they have to show for themselves when they face the Almighty God on Judgment Day?
As a believer, I look at this time we are living in as a trial run for what is yet to come. Have you read Matthew 24 lately, or Luke 21? Venture into Revelation in the past year, or decade, or ever? These are not just stories Jesus (Yeshua) prophesied or told to His close followers. They will be actual events, that will come to pass. And as believers, we best be prepared for what is yet to come upon the earth.
As for me, I am focusing particularly on two things that I know are on the Lord’s heart. The reason I know that is because throughout the entire Bible He repeats them quite often.
They are as follows:
- The salvation of the nations, as His Only Begotten Son Yeshua, the Messiah, came to save.
- The return of the Jews to Israel, before Jesus Christ, the Messiah, returns again to Jerusalem to rule and reign.
If your focus is on something other than what His focus is on, then I would highly suggest you ask Him for a course correction in your life. For some, it may be a slight turn. For others, it may mean complete repentance with a turning back to the Father.
When this “current” situation is over, will many just return back to what they did before? That happened, for those who remember, after the tragic 9/11 event in New York City two decades ago. People went to church for a short time, but then it became business-as-usual. Will it be the same as then, or will people really change and even repent, and choose the ways of the Lord. And you?
Whatever it takes, now would be a good time to re-check your life, consider what you have spent your time on these past years, and if needed, determine to set your heart after that which our Lord has His heart set on.
You don’t have as much time as you think.
Now think on this.
