“Proven Promises” – Now Think On This by Steve Martin

Feb. 23, 2020 Love For His People Charlotte, NC USA

“For I say that the Messiah became a servant of the Jewish people in order to show God’s truthfulness by making good his promises to the Patriarchs, and in order to show his mercy by causing the Gentiles to glorify God — as it is written in the Tanakh, “Because of this I will acknowledge you among the Gentiles and sing praise to your name.” Romans 15:8-9, Complete Jewish Bible

“So, what does support for Israel have to do with you, the pastors of India?”

As I shared my 10 messages that I had prepared for the Indian pastors’ two gatherings in separate states of their country, I put this question to them.

Steve Martin – teaching the pastors in India

“Why should you care about Israel, which may seem so far away from what is in your focus, or interest? For your lives, and the lives of those you shepherd?”

As a matter of fact, why should you, reader of this Now Think On This message, care about Israel? What does that nation, and why the Jews, matter to you?

The answer is simple. If the Creator of all, the God of the Universe, has made good on His promises to the Jews, wouldn’t He also make good on the promises He has made to you?

If He who scattered the Jews centuries ago, because of their rebellion and turning from His ways, and yet promised to regather them as He so prophesied throughout the writings of the prophets as recorded in Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Joel, and more, would He not do the same for you?

If He swore that He would do what He promised He would do, and fulfill it after all this time, would He not also be faithful to you, as He restores you in fellowship with Him, through His Son Jesus Christ?

Paul wrote in Romans 15, the Messiah, Yeshua (Jesus), that in order to show God’s truthfulness by making good His promises to the Patriarchs (Abraham, Isaac, Jacob), came as a servant to the Jews, Himself being a Jew. And God also showed His mercy by causing the Gentiles, non-Jews, to sing glory to Him, after acknowledging His sacrificial death and glorious resurrection done on our behalf also.

These pastors of India could offer true hope and stand on the solid ground of God’s promises for them and the people they shepherd because what God has proven in His faithfulness to the Jews, by returning them to Israel, from all the nations where they had been scattered, He has and will also continue to fulfill His promises made to us as Gentile believers, who also put our hope and trust in His Word.

It is a miraculous act of God, that having surpassed two centuries of being separated from their promised Land, the Jews of the nations are coming back to their homeland, promised to Abraham and his descendants forever.

It is happening just as Ezekiel and Zechariah prophesied it would happen. In our time. In our days.

“God grabbed me. God’s Spirit took me up and sat me down in the middle of an open plain strewn with bones. He led me around and among them — a lot of bones! There were bones all over the plain — dry bones, bleached by the sun. He said to me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” I said, “Master God, only you know that.”

He said to me, “Prophesy over these bones: ‘Dry bones, listen to the Message of God!'”

God, the Master, told the dry bones, “Watch this: I’m bringing the breath of life to you and you’ll come to life. I’ll attach sinews to you, put meat on your bones, cover you with skin, and breathe life into you. You’ll come alive and you’ll realize that I am God!”

I prophesied just as I’d been commanded. As I prophesied, there was a sound and, oh, rustling! The bones moved and came together, bone to bone. I kept watching. Sinews formed, then muscles on the bones, then skin stretched over them. But they had no breath in them.

He said to me, “Prophesy to the breath. Prophesy, son of man. Tell the breath, ‘God, the Master, says, Come from the four winds. Come, breath. Breathe on these slain bodies. Breathe life!'”

So I prophesied, just as he commanded me. The breath entered them and they came alive! They stood up on their feet, a huge army.

Then God said to me, “Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. Listen to what they’re saying: ‘Our bones are dried up, our hope is gone, there’s nothing left of us.’ “Therefore, prophesy. Tell them, ‘God, the Master, says: I’ll dig up your graves and bring you out alive — O my people! Then I’ll take you straight to the land of Israel. When I dig up graves and bring you out as my people, you’ll realize that I am God. I’ll breathe my life into you and you’ll live. Then I’ll lead you straight back to your land and you’ll realize that I am God. I’ve said it and I’ll do it. God’s Decree.'” Ezekiel 37:1-14, THE MESSAGE

And again, through the prophet Jeremiah, God spoke of His promise to bring them back. And as He has proven His promises to fulfill them, for them, so He will do so for us too.

“For here is what Adonai says: ‘After Bavel’s seventy years are over, I will remember you and fulfill my good promise to you by bringing you back to this place. For I know what plans I have in mind for you,’ says Adonai, ‘plans for well-being, not for bad things; so that you can have hope and a future. When you call to me and pray to me, I will listen to you. When you seek me, you will find me, provided you seek for me wholeheartedly; and I will let you find me,’ says Adonai.

‘Then I will reverse your exile. I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have driven you,’ says Adonai, ‘and bring you back to the place from which I exiled you.’ Jeremiah 29:10-14, Complete Jewish Bible

The proven promises being fulfilled before our eyes, with the aliyah (return) of Jews to the Land of Israel, should be enough to show that God is True. Thus we can stand on His Word in faith and belief too.

I believe the pastors of India got it. I trust you will too.

Now think on this.

Ahava and shalom,

Steve Martin
