If you do this—and Hashem so commands you—you will be able to bear up; and all these people too will go home unwearied Exodus 18:23 (The Israel Bible™) Hear the verse in Hebrew IM et ha-da-VAR ha-ZEH ta-a-SEH v’-tzi-v’-KHA e-lo-HEEM v’-ya-khol-TA a-MOD v’-GAM kol ha-AM ha-ZEH al m’-ko-MO ya-VO v’-sha-LOM This verse is taken from the Bible portion of Yitro. In this portion, Jethro (Moses’ father-in-law) brings sacrifices of appreciation to God and proclaims that the God of Israel is greater than all other gods. In addition, Jethro suggests that Moses should appoint representatives, wise and honest men, to judge legal cases to help alleviate the burden of ruling the People of Israel. This verse does not refer to individuals returning to private homes, but rather, to the Nation of Israel arriving at their ancestral homeland. Jethro’s suggestion of improving the legal system was a vital step towards entering the Land of Israel. A renewed commitment to justice will ultimately lead to the final return of the People of Israel to the Land of Israel. |
