Hanukkah celebrates the victory of the Maccabees and the triumph of Jewish life and Torah learning thousands of years ago. After a miraculous military victory, the Jews returned to the Temple, but were unable to locate the necessary amount of pure olive oil to light the menorah, the golden candelabra.
They found only enough oil to be sufficient for one day, but when they kindled it, the oil miraculously lasted for eight full days, marking the second miracle of this holiday. The menorah played a central role in the story of Hanukkah, and thousands of years later, also became the emblem of the modern State of Israel.
This year, Hanukkah coincides with Christmas and is a wonderful reminder of the warming relationships between Christians and Jews. Thank God we are living at a time when more of God’s children are turning towards Him with a shared love for the Land and the People of Israel. Je-wish you a Merry Christmas READ MORE
