“Heart For Jerusalem”- Chapter 18 in my forthcoming new book, “Ahava Adventure” by Steve Martin

Derek Prince was one of the most educated Bible teachers I have ever known, and yet also one of the sincerest men I knew who sought after the Lord, desiring to know His will and walk in it. Sometimes you don’t find the same character traits in one man. But when you do, I encourage you to learn from him as much as you can, for then you know the Lord has touched not only his mind but more importantly his heart.

Derek Prince

In the 88 years he lived*, Derek impacted the world’s hearts with God’s heart for Israel and Jerusalem. I know he did mine.

I had the honor and privilege of being on his Derek Prince Ministries USA-based office team, internationally directed by his son-in-law David Selby. David also was a very honorable man whom I highly respected and served. I was on the staff as the Director of Finance and Operations for a total of 8 years, between 1987-1990 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and then again 2000-2005 in Charlotte, North Carolina. The office had relocated to Charlotte in 1994 when I was working with a related ministry, which had also relocated to the same area in the same year.

Derek Prince at one time spoke these words, which my spirit grasped hold of at the time, though my mind wasn’t quite there yet. He said, “You don’t choose Jerusalem. Jerusalem chooses you.”

How can that be? Does Jerusalem choose you?

Over the years that has become more of a realization in my life.

So, what was it about this adventurous trip, being the 22nd time I have made the journey to the golden city?  Most often I was part of tour groups, other ministries’ travels, and on one occasion I had made the 16-hour total plane flight myself. So why does the Lord keep bringing me back?

In looking in years past, I can find several reasons, beginning with these two.

The first time I heard Prince speak his message “Our Dept To Israel” was back on Mackinac Island on the Canadian border in northern Michigan, in the fall of 1978. Laurie and I had joined several members of churches from the Midwest to the three-day Christian conference. Explaining how Christians not only owed a natural but also a spiritual debt to the Jews, he taught us on specifics. They were the ones the Lord used to bring forth the Bible; they were the ones who had the patriarchs and prophets, gave us the Jewish roots of our faith, and most important of all, it was through their lineage that the Messiah Yeshua, Jesus Christ, Son of God, came forth from the line of King David, as the King of kings and the Lord of lords.

Another very important word I recorded and transcribed for historical purposes was a prophecy given on my ordination day as a minister in the body of Christ, on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004.

Terri Kelson, known as then before changing her name to the Hebrew one, Ahava (love), after making aliyah to Israel in 2018, spoke this prophetic word to me, as others anointed me with oil and spoke prior words of blessing and being set apart for the work I had been called to, while apostolic, prophetic, and pastoral hands were being laid upon me.

“This authority is much, a much greater authority than just in this house (i.e. the local church congregation). He’s (the Lord) giving you a scepter for Zion. A scepter for Zion and a people who do not know Him will come to know Him. You are called to Zion.”

Believing in the logos Word (written) and the rhema word (spoken) carries weight in my spirit. Thus, Jerusalem has become a primary focus for me, and the ministry of Love For His People.

As we began our ahava adventure in this city of 900,000 inhabitants, we desired to see the historical and spiritual Land, but most importantly to further connect with the people. These weren’t going to be only “walk and see” moments, but we were going to be with the ones who have moved here, making aliyah (immigrating) to their Promised Land, through the provision of God the Father, and then us giving ongoing support for them in their lives. We were primarily there for the people, whom many had by now become our dear friends.

When the Creator of the Universe gives you a piece of His heart, it becomes a buried treasure within yours, to discover as you continue searching and seeking Him. His heart for the people, in the Land of Israel, in the very heart of the nation, takes you to His city of Jerusalem. As shown earlier, His Name is written here.

Jesus Christ, Yeshua HaMashiach, returning soon
to take up His throne in Jerusalem.

And soon, Yeshua HaMashiach, Jesus the Messiah, upon His return the 2nd time, will set up His throne there.

“But as for Me, I have installed My King upon Zion, My holy mountain.” “I will surely tell of the decree of the Lord: He said to Me, ‘You are My Son, today I have begotten You. ‘Ask of Me, and I will surely give the nations as Your inheritance, and the very ends of the earth as Your possession. ‘You shall break them with a rod of iron, You shall shatter them like earthenware.'” Psalm 2:6-9, NASU

In Revelation 21:1-10, it is written of Jesus seated on the throne in Jerusalem.

“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea. 2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them, 4 and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away.”

The Messiah Yeshua seated on His throne.

5 And He who sits on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” And He said, “Write, for these words are faithful and true.” 6 Then He said to me, ” It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give to the one who thirsts from the spring of the water of life without cost. 7 ” He who overcomes will inherit these things, and I will be his God and he will be My son. 8 ” But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”

9  Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues came and spoke with me, saying, ” Come here, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.” (NASU)

Now is the time to pray for the peace of Jerusalem. Now is the time to bless the Land of Israel. NOW is the time to bless His people whom He has brought back, to show to the nations that HE ALONE is God and rules over all the nations!
