“Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!” Psalm 133:1, NKJV
Being a Navy SEAL (The United States Navy Sea, Air, and Land Teams, commonly known as Navy SEALs, are the U.S. Navy’s primary special operations force and a component of the Naval Special Warfare Command.) may not be attained by this writer, being of the age 65, which probably puts one out of the preferred age range. But I got a glimpse of what being in unity is all about during my 22nd trip to Israel. This time with a group of just four men. *
Different ages. Different generations. Different unspoken agendas.
The Lord spoke to me in Jerusalem in October 2018 that my trips to Israel were not only NOT to end, as I was believing they were, but that henceforth I would be coming two times a year. Upon hearing His Holy Spirit speak that to me, my spirit perked up. What I had considered dead and over was now being resurrected for His glorious plans and purposes.
The second trip each year, in the fall, would consist strictly of young and old men.
Maybe we won’t be SEALS, but with His Holy Spirit working in and through us, we can and will achieve His goal – to have unity among us to bring forth His eternal desires, in reaching the nations He has established.
This past October 2019 trip began with four of us, with three being 64 and older, and one age 41. Three whites. One black. Three with several trips already to the Land. One for his first.
I learned a lot. Especially about having unity among men.
The importance of unity, to achieve and accomplish a certain mission, must be of utmost importance in any assembled group. You can be sure that if the Lord is sending teams out, as is the case with apostolic mission teams, then these must have one goal, one mind, one spirit. It is of utmost importance. Like the Navy SEALS going after an assigned target, in order to release, capture, or destroy the work of the enemy, the Lord will require the same unification factors and one mindset for the teams He assembles and sends forth.
Age need not be a hindering factor. Having separate agendas within the group will keep the mission from achieving success.
Many examples of men assembling for a known mission are written in the Scriptures for our benefit. David had mighty men on his team. With one purpose and goal, they achieved mighty works.
“These are the chiefs of David’s Mighty Men, the ones who linked arms with him as he took up his kingship, with all Israel joining in, helping him become king in just the way God had spoken regarding Israel.” 1 Chronicles 11:10, THE MESSAGE
Jesus selected those men called of Father God to ultimately spread the Gospel of His Kingdom. He chose 12, who would do as He did after spending over 3 years instructing, training, and walking with them, with one unified purpose. Because of it, they achieved the call on their lives.
Mark 6:7-13 “And He summoned the twelve and began to send them out in pairs, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits; and He instructed them that they should take nothing for their journey, except a mere staff — no bread, no bag, no money in their belt — but to wear sandals; and He added, “Do not put on two tunics.”
And He said to them, “Wherever you enter a house, stay there until you leave town. “Any place that does not receive you or listen to you, as you go out from there, shake the dust off the soles of your feet for a testimony against them.” They went out and preached that men should repent. And they were casting out many demons and were anointing with oil many sick people and healing them.” NASU
It is time for the men of the Body of Christ to stand up, lead as we have been called to do, and achieve exploits for the Kingdom of God. Walking in unity for the purpose He has set before us – to take the Gospel to the nations, beginning at home first and foremost. and then reaching out to the ends of the earth will be necessary to complete the mission.
We may not be Navy SEALS, but we sure can have the heart and spirit of one.
“Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! It is like the precious oil upon the head, running down on the beard, the beard of Aaron, running down on the edge of his garments. It is like the dew of Hermon, descending upon the mountains of Zion; for there the Lord commanded the blessing — life forevermore.” Psalm 133, NKJV
Make it your purpose to link arms, stand together in unity, and be the conquering warrior that we have been called to be. Men of God!
Now think on this and see what good things the Lord has in store for you and those around you.
