ARTICLE: THE SEASON OF ELUL By: Cathy Hargett, Highway to Zion Ministries
The month of Elul, which began this year on the evening of August 31 and culminates on the evening of September 29 when the Feast of Trumpets (Yom Teruah, or using the most recognizable name, Rosh haShana) begins. It is a season which extends for 40 days until the Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur).
I’ve come to love this season because it beckons us to draw near to God, to Elohim – to Abba, to our Yeshua and to the Holy Spirit, the Ruach haKodesh. It is a season in preparation for the Fall Feast Days. In a spiritual sense, a season to prepare for the return of Yeshua haMashiach and the Kingdom to this earth!I find that I want to rededicate my whole self anew to Him each year during this season.
And also, if possible, to enter the mikveh (baptism) as a renewal of covenant and worship. So much to learn and so much to receive from the Lord in the riches of His Word. Celebrating these appointed times enriches intimacy with Him in ways unknown to me before I understood the true roots of my faith as a believer in Jesus. Drawing us to an intimacy like no other is His call.
The rabbis taught/teach that the Hebrew word, Elul, is the acronym for the phrase “I am Beloved’s and my Beloved is mine”, a time of deeply personal understanding of Who He is and who we are in Him. While I believe it is incumbent on us as believers to seek the Word of the Lord, to seek His face and no other, and not to be caught up into any manmade religion, I do believe there are so many beautiful traditions in Judaism that are grounded in the Word even though they may be rabbinical traditions, which illustrate His Glory and help us to see Him and to love Him more.
I am including an article here by a group in Israel that does a good job explaining the Fall Feasts, teaching both the traditions and teachings of Judaism and then revealing Yeshua in those teachings. This was written a couple of years ago.
Please read, and if you have never considered these truths, revealed in the Feasts of the Lord, I do believe He is asking me to invite you to learn and to experience Him on yet a deeper level of faith and love.
The Lord bless you and keep you! Much love in our Messiah Yeshua!
