Chapter 37 of the Book of Yechezkel (Ezekiel) contains the well-known prophecy of the valley where the dry bones will come to life. When Hashem (God) asked Yechezkel “can these bones live?” Yechezkel didn’t express doubt but rather expressed his faith in Hashem and in His omnipotence. This prophecy parallels the prophecy of the return and restoration of the Jewish people in the Land of Israel. The prophet Yechezkel prophesied during the destruction of the kingdoms of Yisrael (Israel) and Yehuda (Judea) as the people of Israel were being scattered across the globe. The people of Israel could not image that they, as a nation, would survive in the Diaspora. Even more unimaginable was their redemption and return to their ancestral homeland. Just as in the prophecy of Yechezkel 37 the dry bones rose, to too, in a miraculous fashion in the 70 years since the establishment of the State of Israel, the Jewish people have flocked back to the Land of Israel fulfilling the ancient Biblical prophecy.
