Making Miracles Happen Every Day ✡ “The Return of the Year” – ISRAEL365

And it came to pass, at the time of the return of the year, at the time when kings go out to battle, that Yoav led forth the power of the army, and wasted the country of the children of Amon, and came and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried at Yerushalayim. And Yoav smote Rabbah, and overthrew it.

Today’s Israel Inspiration

The beginning of the year is phrased as ‘teshuvat hashanah,’ which literally means “thereturn of the year.” The nature of the year is cyclical, and the holidays, which are the focus of the Jewish year, constantly repeat themselves. In a certain sense, the beginning of a new year is in fact a return to the old year, going back to the times of Moses and the exodus from Egypt which many of the holidays commemorate. Furthermore, the Jewish new year focuses on God’s judgement and man’s repentance. The word ‘teshuva,’ which means return, also means repentance. ‘Teshuvat hashanah’ means the time of year when we are obligated to repent. Our rabbis teach that one of the most powerful ways of doing teshuva is to emulate God’s trait of giving to others; this is even emphasized in the Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur liturgy. When we shower our fellow with kindness and generosity, God will certainly do the same for us.

The serenity of the Dead Sea’s waters glowing in the sunlight reminds us that just as the new year brings with it a taste of newness and a chance to begin again, so too does each day provide us with the same inspiration.

Rabbi Tuly, I just wanted you to know how much I enjoy receiving my emails from Israel365. I learn a lot about Israel and her people that touches my heart. I am a member of a local Messianic congregation in Greensboro. NC and we pray daily for the piece of Jerusalem. On a personal level, I contribute to many organizations in Israel and am so blessed to do so.  Israel’s challenges seem so overwhelming at times but I (WE) must remember that God is greater by far than all of the enemies of Israel. He will always keep Israel. Baruch HaShem. I and others around the world will continue to faithfully support Israel unto the day Mashiach comes. May it be in our lifetimes. David Nelson – North Carolina, USA

Shalom,
